Both authors and writers in India are known to be the main fulcrum of Indian Literature Society.  When it comes to Indian Literature works, these writing professionals play a pivotal role in taking the Indian Literature to new heights. Interestingly, women writers contribute in equal numbers as men in delivering their works in style and eloquence. Most of these writers focus on various topics such as communism, feminism and so on. India, being a nation of ‘Unity In Diversity’ these professional writers face different challenges while expressing their thought processes in various cultural activities even though they differ marginally. 

Rabindranath Tagore: Indian Literature is said to be incomplete without mentioning Rabindranath Tagore. Being a lawyer, he has been attracted by the works of Shakespeare. His works like Gitanjali, Mansi have become world famous as this poet cum author has scripted the Indian national song which is considered to be one of the best verse across the globe. 

Chetan Bhagat:  Being a multitalented writer Chetan Bhagat is not only good writing but also shown his success as a screen writer, columnist, and a television personality.  He has got appreciation by New York Times for his novel. He is well known for his Comedy-Drama novels that describe the middle –class Indian urban population. Amrita Pritam:  Being inspired in her younger age, Pritam is well known for poetry and literature. Her courage was exposed when she wrote controversial writings during the pre-partition time. The challenges faced during such time have influenced her to write the famous Punjabi novel Pinjar. This novel is all about the inability of women during the era and the social discrimination they have passed during that time.  Her novel has later transformed into a Bollywood film which was a great hit across the country.

Khushwant Singh: Being a London educated journalist, Singh is one of the best novelists in India. He became to the profession of an editor after his Law studies and later written many journals and magazines.  His outstanding contributions include The Company of Woman, Train to Pakistan and many more. His flow of Hindi, as well as English, was amazing and he was also a good orator. He is well known for his oratorical skills which have attracted many audiences across the globe.

R. K. Narayan: Hailed from Chennai Narayanan popularly called as RK in the print media, is one of the best writers that India has produced. He has started his work by reading books, and this habit has influenced him to become one of the renowned authors in the Indian history. He has practiced simplicity in his appearance which has later become a hallmark of his personality. 

Arundhati Roy: Hailing from Bengal, she is one of the best novelists India has ever produced in the recent times. Her novel’ God of Small Things’ got her many accolades and awards from all quarters. Besides her writing works, she was a well known political activist, and this role has made more popular in the Indian political arena.

Vikram Seth: Seth is known to be a brilliant writer both in novel and poetry works. His contributions such as The Golden Gate, A Suitable Boy and many more have received many awards, and he has been awarded Padma Shri during his peak days. His flow of language attracted many fans across the country.

Besides the above referred Indian writers, there are many such writers available in India who are less known due to poor exposure at the National level. There are innumerable regional writers who are engaged in the prominent local newspapers as well as the local publishers. Indian writers have the advantage of knowing many languages and their proficiency in English is highly laudable at the global level.

Women’s Representation In Politics In India

Terms such as women’s rights, women empowerment, female equality, etc. are doing rounds in every Indian media and are topics of regular discussions. But when we look at the statistics, India is still far behind in the case of women representation in politics. The global representation of women stands at an average of 22% while in India it is just 11.8%. The state of affairs is yet to improve, but we must not fail to notice some amazing ladies who serve as the rays of hope amidst the darkness. Sonia Gandhi
Sonia Gandhi is a silent, yet influential lady who has been the head of the Indian National Congress party for a record period of  19 years. Congress party has witnessed remarkable achievements under her reign. She has retired from the president role in December 2017 but continues to be the strong guiding force of the Congress party.

Sheila Dixit

She also holds the credit for being the first female railway minister of India.

Mayawati is undoubtedly the most influential Dalit leader in India. She has been the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for four terms. She is the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) which works for the empowerment of the downtrodden in terms of religion and caste.

Vasundhara Raje Scindia
