Women’s Representation In Politics In India

Terms such as women’s rights, women empowerment, female equality, etc. are doing rounds in every Indian media and are topics of regular discussions. But when we look at the statistics, India is still far behind in the case of women representation in politics. The global representation of women stands at an average of 22% while in India it is just 11.8%. The state of affairs is yet to improve, but we must not fail to notice some amazing ladies who serve as the rays of hope amidst the darkness. Here is a list of some powerful females who strongly represent women in national politics!

Sonia Gandhi
Sonia Gandhi is a silent, yet influential lady who has been the head of the Indian National Congress party for a record period of  19 years. Congress party has witnessed remarkable achievements under her reign. She has retired from the president role in December 2017 but continues to be the strong guiding force of the Congress party.

Sheila Dixit
Sheila Dixit is a senior leader of the Congress party. In Delhi, Congress has come into power three times consecutively under her leadership.
